Some common HRIS packages are PeopleSoft, Abra, Lawson, Oracle, SAP, ADP Enterprise. Most common is hard to name because the size of an organization, complexity of HR delivery systems, level of technological sophistication and demand for information within the organization influence the type of HR Software chosen.
Where to learn? Attend the SHRM national conference in June, in San Diego! The software vendors will all be there and be eager to demonstrate their packages, enhancements, updates, etc. Also, you might seek an HRIS course at your local university extension program or community college. An alternative is to contact the vendors and ask which companies in your locale have purchased their programs, and ask those HR departments for a "tutorial." Another idea is to ask for the local vendor representatives to demonstrate their programs for you or to include you in their next product demonstration to close a sale.
